This is where the industrious Knud Lyne Rahbek worked at his many tasks. He wrote, translated, edited his periodicals and much more. As he was a slightly absent-minded person, this room was probably not quite so tidy in his day.
The large portrait above the writing desk is of Rahbek’s father, the customs inspector Jacob Rahbek. Note the simple oil lamp (c. 1810) on the desk along with the writing tools that were made by Kamma Rahbek’s father, Assessor Hans Heger. This modest set of writing tools was a wedding present. They are made of cardboard and are an example of the Heger family’s interest in all kinds of objects made from paper. Rahbek’s almanac from the year of his death can be seen on the right hand side of the writing desk top.
