This room was rented out. One of those who lived here for three summers in the 1840s was N.F.S. Grundtvig. This is where, in 1845, he was inspired by the bells of Frederiksberg Church, to write the hymn Our Church’s Bell ‘Midst Noble Bronze, and here he received the homage of the Scandinavian students that same year. The room has now been turned into the library. The collection of books includes books on Bakkehuset, Rahbek’s works and the works of contemporary writers, including a very fine edition of Johannes Ewald. Various periodicals are on display, and on application to the office they can be taken out and read on the spot. Read more on the Library.
The Rahbeks and their guests could stroll about in the garden and derive inspiration from their surroundings. All that is left of the garden now is a narrow strip behind the building.
